MBA Business Spotlight: Meet Martin and Luke Salisbury
This spotlight series is from The Midland Business Alliance.
The Midland Business Alliance is delighted to highlight Martin and Luke Salisbury, the father-son team behind Private Stock Hobby Shop in Midland, as part of our business profile series. What began as a hobby during the pandemic has blossomed into a thriving community hub for card collectors and sports enthusiasts alike, where Martin and Luke have created a welcoming space centered on connection, learning, and shared passion.
Martin’s love for collecting sports cards stretches back years, but it wasn’t until COVID-19 that he revisited his collection with Luke. “I had a pretty large collection, just sitting in the closet,” Martin recalls. “We started sorting, pricing, and eventually selling at shows. It just took off from there.” After a successful outing at Shepherd’s Maple Syrup Festival, where they filled tables with cards, the idea for a permanent space took shape. “We were looking for a place not only to sell but also to make it comfortable, where people could come in, sit, and talk cards without feeling rushed,” Martin explains. With the support of a community equally passionate about collectibles, Private Stock Hobby Shop found its home.
Today, Private Stock Hobby Shop is more than just a store—it’s a place where visitors of all ages can learn, negotiate, and connect over a shared interest. “We see kids coming in, learning face-to-face negotiation, communication, and the art of the trade,” Luke says. “That kind of engagement is rare in a world so focused on screens.” For Martin and Luke, seeing young collectors reciting stats and engaging with each other is a highlight. “When a five-year-old can recite the Atlanta Braves roster better than I can, I know we’re doing something right,” Martin laughs. Both men are grateful for the support they’ve received from the community and other local businesses, which fuels their enthusiasm to stay active in Midland events and continue fostering the next generation of collectors.
Stay tuned for more as the Midland Business Alliance continues to spotlight the people and stories behind Midland’s businesses, celebrating those who bring unique passions and contributions to our community.
