January is Cervical Health & Cancer Awareness Month
Take preventive action to promote cervical health:
January is Cervical Health and Cancer Awareness Month, and the Midland County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is proud to be an active community partner in cervical health promotion and cervical cancer prevention.
The MCDPH offers the following services that can contribute to cervical health:
· Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV)
· Preventive screenings for individuals with a cervix (Pap and HPV test-per guidelines)
· Testing & treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STI)
· Sexual health education & protection supplies
The MCDPH also participates in the Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP), which provides access to breast and cervical cancer screening services (mammograms and Pap tests) and follow-up when needed for low-income individuals.
“Our goal is to ensure preventive health services are accessible to anyone seeking them,” shares Nicole Swanton, Clinical Services Director for the MCDPH. “We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. We seek to provide affordable care, and remove barriers, such as long wait times for an appointment.”
The MCDPH accepts a wide range of insurance, and offers a sliding fee scale based on income for those that do not have insurance. The first available appointment for any service is generally available within a week from the time an individual calls seeking an appointment. The clinic is able to test for some STI’s on a walk-in basis Monday-Friday from 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm.
A full list of services offered through the MCDPH Clinic, can be found on the Clinic Services section of the MCDPH website, or individuals can call 989-832-6380 (option #1) with any questions.
