Midland County Neighboring Week
Neighboring week is
September 23-30, 2023
Midland County Neighboring Week is organized by the Midland Area Cultural Awareness Coalition each year to help further the work of making our Midland County vision statement into a reality: Midland: an inclusive community. Together. Forward. Bold. An exceptional place where everyone thrives.
The Cultural Awareness Coalition understands that inclusive neighboring is the catalyst for building a sense of belonging across Midland County. This annual week-long event offers a wide range of activities, put on by various organizations, neighborhoods, businesses, and initiatives that foster connections, build friendships, and celebrate our neighbors!
“Anyone can join in either participating in a Neighboring Week event, planning a Neighboring Week event, just being an inclusive neighbor intentionally that week,” Alysia Christy, Director of Community Impact at the Midland Area Community Foundation says.
“It doesn't have to be anything big, but it’s something that our community can rally behind that says, ‘We see people, we believe that people have the right to feel that they belong in a community.’ One week allows for a lot of intentionality and focus on the fact that we should be a place that supports belonging and inclusion of people that live here and that work here and that recreate here.”
Midland County Neighboring Week is more than just a week of events—it's a celebration of the spirit of community. In a world that sometimes feels increasingly disconnected, this annual tradition reminds us of the importance of knowing our neighbors, celebrating our culture, and spreading kindness. It's a testament to what makes Midland County a truly special place to call home.
Do you have a Midland County story you would like to tell that aligns with our vision?
