Greater Midland Community Center Enhances Accessibility to Foster Belonging for All
Greater Midland Community Center is proud to shine a spotlight on the accessibility features that ensure its facility is a place where everyone feels welcome and supported. Guided by its core value of building belonging, these amenities create an inclusive environment where individuals of all abilities can fully enjoy everything the Community Center has to offer.
“At Greater Midland, accessibility isn’t just about physical spaces – it’s about creating meaningful opportunities for everyone to connect and thrive,” says Shane Forfar, Executive Director of Operations “We’re so proud to provide features that remove barriers and foster a true sense of belonging.”
The Community Center is equipped with a variety of features to ensure accessibility, including:
• Specialized Aquatic Chairs: Offering sizes for both youth and adults, these chairs improve access to the pool for users with a wide range of mobility needs. They offer adjustable features such as a customizable backrest and calf support, ensuring comfort and safety for users of different ages and body sizes.
• Spa Lift System: The lift system allows individuals with limited mobility to access the spa safely and more independently.
• Universal Changing Room Lift System: A lift system that safely assists users with mobility challenges in transferring between areas of the room including the adult size changing table, shower, toilet and sink. This enhances the safety of the individual and provides greater independence.
•Pool Accessibility: Featuring railings and a gradual entry for safe and comfortable water access.
• Universal Restrooms and Changing Rooms: Inclusive spaces for individuals or families, including an Accessibility Changing Room with an adult-sized changing table.
• Flat-Surface Adventure Track: Designed to accommodate individuals with all abilities, offering a smooth, stable surface, allowing everyone to freely engage in physical exercise.
• Accessible Parking: Double the amount of required accessible parking spaces which are conveniently located for easy access to the building.
• Easy-Reach Lockers: Designed for convenience and usability for everyone.
• Elevator Access: Ensuring every level of our building is within reach.
• Automatic Doors: Seamless entry points for all visitors.
